We’re back with a catchy indie rocker! The last couple of tracks have been out of character from what we normally do. Slow Hand Clap is a fun retro dance track but not really our wheel house. And Where’d You Go is hauntingly beautiful but decidedly melancholy. Our goal is to make songs that are uplifting and unique. Sometimes as an artist it is good and challenging to do something out of your comfort zone. It makes getting back into your comfort zone that much more productive.
Open My Eyes was inspired by our grandson Cohen. He’s just a few months old but he takes in everything. It is amazing to watch him observe life around him as he tries to figure it all out. It helps that he is a well tempered and generally fun infant to be around.
The hook riff came out of the songwriting workshop Todd took over the summer. It is reminiscent of something Andy Partridge of XTC would write. So we tried to keep the rest of the song in that quirky, indie, guitar rock vein. Shari added some choice harmony vocals to the arrangement. This is one of those occasions where she sensed something that made the choruses really stand out.
Our friend from the songwriting workshop, Don Jones, also contributed to the song. He added some lyrical and melodic elements that improved the original demos. We are grateful to count him as a co-writer along with Todd Douglas.
We are trying to work with some different promotional partners on this one. This might be our best song yet and we really want to share it with the world. Give it a spin when you get a chance. You won’t be disapointed.
