It’s Christmas time. Time for sharing, giving, and singing.

We haven’t made a Christmas song in a few years. We released our version of Silent Night in 2022 which was a new Christmas story framed with the classic Christmas carol. We really like that song and it has become more popular over time.

Angels We Have Heard is retelling of another classic Christmas carol. It is a straight up remake of the traditional song with modern instrumentation and arrangement.

Like Silent Night, Angels started with the acoustic guitar riff which is melodic and chunky. Going to the dominant 7th at the end of the verse gives some tension before moving into the chorus. The chorus melody is simplified to give it a new twist and the underlying chords move differently but it all works to create a satisfying resolution. The lead guitar hook riff just kind of happened and felt right, so why not build from that in a guitar solo? And why not add other harmony guitar lines in the solo?

The result is an acoustic guitar driven song with an indie pop feel and southern rock guitar hooks. Not exactly what we expected when we started, but it is a satisfying result that makes us happy when when we listen to it.
