Slow Hand Clap was released on Feb 28. It is a super catchy and quirky retro style dance track that features hand claps in the rhythm track. In the video below I describe the evolution of how the claps were created in the song. The goal was to make a realistic sound like a bunch of people clapping.
To recap, we used the Clap Machine from 99sounds.org to stack a bunch of different hand clap sounds. We then use midi transforms in Logic Pro X to randomize not just the clap sounds but also the starting position of the claps. This gives a satisfyingly realistic illusion of a room full of people clapping without taking the time to record a room full of people clapping.
Using this method also allowed us to duplicate the midi track. This gives us two unique sounding tracks that we hard panned to widen the stereo field while keeping the claps out of the way of other instruments. If you are a music producer who needs hand claps in a song you should find this technique useful.
